Founded in 1979, the Cape Wine Academy is recognised as the official wine education and training institution in South Africa. 

 

Diploma Wine Course

 
 

Experience wines of the Old and New World; learn about and taste wines from around the world.

COURSE OUTLINE:

 

The Diploma course comprises 4 modules, each Module contains 7 lectures, presented in individual evening sessions or in a 3 consecutive Saturday program. Each lecture is topic related and will end with an analytical tasting of wines. One lecture in each module is a tutored tasting.. On completion of Module 1, further modules can be completed in any order, over a 2 to 4 year period. The course is partly self-study. Each module requires that 3 course assignments be submitted, and concludes with a 3 hour written theory examination. 

 

Module 1:  Global Wine Production,  starts in Johannesburg in March 2018 and in Stellenbosch and Cape Town in Aug 2018
Module 2: Wines of France, starts in Stellenbosch, Cape Town and Johannesburg in March 2018
Module 3: Wines of the Old World (excludes France) starts in Stellenbosch, Cape Town and Johannesburg in August 2018 
Module 4: Wines of the New World starts in Stellenbosch, Cape Town and Johannesburg in 2018

Once the 4 modules have been successfully completed, a candidate qualifies to sit the Diploma Tasting examination, which will include both local and imported wines.

TIME: 
STB & CT: 18h00–21h00
JHB: 3 day program, 1st day starting at 8am, till approximately 13:00pm. All exam dates are fixed nationally and written in the evening.

 

COST per person*
-    R6 500.00 per Module – Evenings
-    R6 750.00 per person for the 3 day course. Includes lunch on the first day, snacks/ teas/coffees throughout the 3 days
OR
-    Modules 1-4 upfront - less 10% (only applicable for upfront payments for all 4 modules)                             
OR
-   R2 975.00 correspondence: excludes any additional postage/courier costs of course and examination materials to and from the student, as well as invigilation fees etc.

*  Prices quoted are per person excluding text book and are valid during 2018, future modules may be subject to annual price increases.

 

ADVISORY:

  • Cape Wine Academy promotes responsible use of alcohol. We recommend the use of spittoons supplied at the tastings, to reduce the excessive consumption of wine during the tastings.
  • It is advisable to eat a meal before the start of each class.
  • Please don’t wear perfume or aftershave when attending the classes – it affects everyone’s ability to smell the wine.

 

DRINKING AND DRIVING RESPONSIBLY:
Remember a sober driver is best. The Cape Wine Academy encourages all students to spit .
The legal limit is TWO standard units. If you are over the limit please be responsible and make arrangements for your collection.
