Baboons plague
Constantia Wine Estates
Cape Town baboons are fast becoming notorious.
They have been linked to theft, assaults,
damage to property and even robberies. The
problems caused by baboons are increasing
at Groot Constantia and at the Klein Constantia
wine estates, two of the country's oldest
wineries. Dozens of Cape Baboons gather
daily to strip the ancient vines, raid kitchens

Record numbers
at 2010 Soweto Wine Festival
What a fantastic weekend for wine lovers
at the 6th annual Soweto Wine Festival.
Over the 3-night event, a record number
7 548 mostly-black middle class South Africans
tasted their way through 800 wines and enjoyed
live music by township Jazz band, Safika,
food and wine pairing courses in the Pick
n Pay Taste Theatre and local menus from
a range of home-grown Soweto restaurants.

English Wine
wins Decanter Trophy
A little known English wine has beaten world-famous
champagne houses to win one of the most
important awards in the wine industry, being
named as the best sparkling wine in the
world. Ridgeview, Grosvenor Blanc de Blancs,
2006, beat over 700 Italian prossecos, Californian
sparkling wines, Australian fizzes as well
as celebrated champagnes from Charles Heidseck,
Taittinger, and Moët & Chandon.

London, confirming the country’s reputation
as a world-class producer of white wines.

French wine
China has become the top export market for
Bordeaux wines. Sales of Bordeaux wines
in China have doubled every year for the
past five years but, in the first half of
this year, China and Hong Kong outmatched
the UK and Germany to take top position
